Officials Bursary
The Officials Bursary is available to support officials in maintaining or upgrading their status, and supporting ongoing education.

The Officials bursary recognizes the commitment and expense required by officials (and those wishing to become officials) to maintain or upgrade their status, continue their education and to support ongoing education.

The bursary program provides monetary assistance to officials or those with potential to become officials, as outlined below.

The number of bursaries available varies from year to year and is awarded by the OEA to qualified candidates based on an assessment of the information provided in their application.

Successful applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements outlined below in order for their application to be assessed.
Eligibility requirements
Applicant must:

be a resident of Ontario
-
be a current member of Equestrian Canada, OE, and OEA at the time of application
-
If already an official, be current with all Officials fees.
Selection process
Applications will be assessed by members of the Officials Committee. Considerations of educational opportunity, need, clarity, presentation and benefit to the official/potential official will be the primary selection criteria.
The criteria will be weighted as follows:

Benefit to eventing in Ontario – 30%

Benefit to applicant’s development – 40%
-
Financial considerations – 20%
-
Presentation, clarity – 10%
Reimbursement guidelines
Maximum yearly reimbursement per person is $1000.
For 2026, the total available funding, to be disbursed among successful applications, is $3,000.

Applications must be submitted no later than September 30, 2026.
*NEW* Applications will be processed after the application deadline, to help support as many eligible applicants as possible.
Bursaries will be awarded and disbursed by October 31, 2026.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Bursary funds will only be dispersed after all eligible expenses in the application have been incurred.
Eligible costs are those required to either become an accredited official, maintain or upgrade current official status.
Applicants are expected to provide the Officials Committee with supporting documents and receipts with their application.
These can include:

Course fees for required educational courses

Mileage reimbursement to travel to officials courses or to assist/apprentice either on competition days or for pre-inspections (rate: $0.67/km)

Other travel costs (airfare, accommodations) to travel to officials courses or to assist/apprentice either on competition days or for pre-inspections.
