The OEA and the Zara Buren Memorial Foundation are proud to present Zara’s Legacy of Excellence, a Program that celebrates Ontario’s outstanding Junior Eventers across divisions (EV85-EV110), recognizing one excellent performance at each EC-sanctioned Horse Trial in Ontario in 2025.

“Supporting and growing the sport of Eventing starts with our Juniors. We are working with the OEA to deliver a fair, performance-based program that acknowledges and encourages high performance across levels at our EC-sanctioned Ontario Horse Trials. Zara’s legacy of excellence in everything she did was the inspiration. We hope everyone has a great show season!” – Sabrina Haque (Zara’s mom)

The Program recognizes Juniors who achieve outstanding results as reflected in their final scores. The Junior with the lowest score at each Horse Trial will be eligible to receive a white, embroidered, Ogilvy Jump Profile saddle pad provided by the Zara Buren Memorial Foundation.

To encourage and reward as many excellent performances by Juniors as possible, there is a limit of one saddle pad per rider during the season.

Recipients will be announced on the OEA’s social media on the Tuesday following each Horse Trial. Where a Junior earns the lowest score more than once, their performance will be warmly acknowledged alongside the performance of the rider with the next-most-excellent score, who will receive the saddle pad.

At the end of the season, the OEA and the Zara Buren Memorial Foundation will award year-end ribbons for Zara’s Legacy of Excellence: Top Juniors, 2025 (EV85-EV110), to the top eight Juniors and prizes will be furnished for the top three. Year-end placings will be based on the OEA Leaderboard points associated with a Junior’s top four finishes (across divisions) at EC-sanctioned Horse Trials in Ontario during the 2025 season.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this Program, including the Year-End ribbons and prizes, a rider must:

  • be under the age of 18 as of January 1, 2025;

  • be a current member of the OEA;

  • be Eventing at the EV85 level or above.

The top-placing Junior competitor at each Horse Trial will be identified as the Junior with the lowest final score provided by the competition scorers combined with a coefficient calculation to account for any disproportionate effort, difficulty and commitment associated with riding at the higher levels.

The coefficients are as follows: EV85: 1.0; EV90: .95; EV100: .90; EV105: .85 and EV110:.80.
