About the award
We are thrilled to announce that, in conjunction with the Bradley Mark Johnston Pursuit of Excellence and Working Student Bursaries, the Bradley Mark Johnston Educational Foundation is further honoring Bradley’s memory with the newly announced Bradley Mark Johnston ‘On Your Mark’ Award.
This award will run throughout the Eventing season in Ontario and is intended to help shine a spotlight on those two new bursaries and to highlight, to OEA Eventers at all levels, the importance of the optimum time in the cross-country phase of our sport.
One winner of the Bradley Mark Johnston ‘On Your Mark Award’ will be identified at each EC sanctioned horse trial in Ontario in 2025.
Eligibility
All riders who complete the XC phase of the horse trial are eligible for this award. No registration is required.
The winner – the rider who completes the cross-country phase finishing exactly on the optimum time for their level – will receive a cash prize of $100 provided by the Bradley Mark Johnston Foundation.
Where more than one rider achieves the optimum time on XC, one of their names will be drawn at random to receive the prize.
If no rider finishes on the optimum time, a $50 consolation prize will be awarded to the rider whose time is closest to the optimum time, without going over.
In the event that multiple riders finish with this same ‘closest time’ for their level, the names of each of those riders will be entered in a draw and one winner will be selected at random to win the consolation prize of $50.
The winning rider will be announced on the OEA’s website and social media platform and the Bradley Mark Johnston ‘On Your Mark’ cash prize will be awarded via e-transfer from the OEA.
The Bradley Mark Johnston Educational Foundation
Bradley was a kind, generous, compassionate and caring son of Stuart and Bernadette Johnston who passed away in January 2005 as a result of a senseless and horrific attack, and the Johnston’s established the Bradley Mark Johnston Educational Foundation in Brad’s memory to honour his beautiful spirit and his generous desire to support other aspiring young people in pursuit of their dreams.
The Foundation has previously supported scholarships to animation colleges and is now focusing on providing educational opportunities to members of Ontario’s Eventing community.
