Welcome to the OEA’s Rule of the Month, where, with TD Peggy Hambly, we profile key rules of Eventing and keep you up to date on any critical rules changes you need to know about!
Question:
Help! What happens if I go off course in dressage?
Peggy’s guidance:
The first thing about going off course in dressage is that you might not even know it (see
rule D304.13 for information about Errors of Course). The judge will not interrupt you if
your test is flowing nicely, like if your transition is at the wrong letter. So, when you find
out, don’t go hunting down the judge. Go to the office and request the TD.
Should the judge stop your test to inform you, you will be given instructions on where to
resume the test. Don’t try to argue in the moment or try to explain why you made the
mistake.
If something else happens that you don’t understand, again, go to the office and request
the TD.
The TD will investigate for you and give you the results of judge/Ground jury decisions.
