The Ontario Eventing Association would like to invite you, and your members, to join us on February 27 at 7pm for OEA’s first Mental Wellness Zoom of 2023 – a presentation by coach and 5* US Eventer Ashley Johnson that explores sports’ psychology and communication between coaches, athletes and parents.
Ashley promises to bring a unique perspective to this discussion drawing on her experience as an elite equestrian athlete, a small business owner, coach, author, and “Master Problem Solver.” She was raised in New jersey and after a brief stint working for Christie’s Auction House in New York City, Ashley founded Ashland Equestrian, which has been based in Ocala, FL since 2007. Ashley holds an ALM in psychology from Harvard University and provides performance coaching services through her Empower Performance Coaching platform. Ashley has been a high-performance athlete ranked in the top 1% of three-day event riders in the United States for five Olympic cycles. Her passion is developing potential – both equine and human. Ashley is in her seventh year as the coach of the University of Florida Eventing Team and is the United States Eventing Association’s Area III Young Rider coach. She is also a licensed ‘R’ Eventing Judge and ‘r’ Technical Delegate with the United States Equestrian Federation.
Ashley believes in recycling, composting, and social justice. She has long promoted diversity and inclusion in her business. In 2022 she founded a scholarship in partnership with Strides for Equality Equestrians for a rider of color to gain access to training and mentorship in her program. She also works with the Ocala Horse Alliance’s Black Stallion Project to promote literacy and industry accessibility for Marion County youth. Ashley is a triathlete, a wilderness camper, a paddle boarder, and a West Coast Swing dancer. Along with the horses, she and her partner Billy have a grumpy orange tabby barn cat and two lovable border collies.
